Saturday is Drone/STEM Day at the Thunderbird Drone Festival.
Drone/STEM Day
Drone Day will feature a full lineup of panels, STEM activities, and hands-on educational opportunities to explore the exciting world of drones and UAS technology. Participate in interactive breakout sessions, test your skills in drone soccer, and more. Whether you’re a seasoned drone enthusiast or just curious about aerial innovation, Drone/STEM Day has something for everyone.
Drone Soccer
Drone Soccer is an innovative STEM workforce development program designed for students ages 12 and up. Imagine playing a real-life version of Quidditch from Harry Potter—but with drones. The program has expanded rapidly, now reaching 35 states with more than 340 active programs nationwide, including several right here in Oklahoma. Through Drone Soccer, students discover pathways into future careers such as mechanical engineering, aerospace, coding, software development, electrical engineering, troubleshooting, leadership, and drone operations. They gain hands-on experience working in diverse, coed teams to design, program, and fly drones while developing critical skills in collaboration and communication. These experiences not only spark curiosity but also build a strong foundation for advanced STEM coursework, technical training, and college degrees. For students who want to take their skills to the next level, the U.S. Drone Soccer Association organizes a national league, offering opportunities for local, national, and even international competition.
